ROLL-W-Ina B&C OVERVIEW

Ripples are upward and downward displacement of the water surface or the surface of a liquid after it has been disturbed. Ripples also have energy and the capacity to spread outwards away from the point of disturbance.

In our journey through life, our actions generate “tiny ripples” that have the capacity to impact on others, either positively or negatively. Sometimes life’s ripples will continue to spread, long after we have exited life’s stage, in the form of legacies. Most people tend to believe that only a few “good” legacies endure the test of time and that the vast majority of “bad ripples” are bound to disappear into oblivion where they will remain forgotten. On the contrary, all “life ripples” endure – the only difference being that some ripples are stronger than others and are therefore, much more noticeable.

Some “life ripples” we see today, that appear seemingly inactive, may gain momentum down the line when the conditions are right: this is another important difference between “life ripples” and the ripples we observe in waters. During the life of a ripple, it experiences many vicissitudes but continues to endure for as long as there is enough “energy” to keep it going against resistance. Ripples that endure the longest are those with the most “momentum” or energy.

In addition, ripples that last beyond a generation are those that we communicate, clearly and effectively, in the conscious process of self-preservation. Have you ever wondered why ideologies akin to those of Nazi Germany continue to resurface even in post Nazi eras? In fact, in today’s world there are individuals who still uphold fascist and racist ideologies/agendas. The answer is simple: ripples generated by a few and propagated by many span through generations because they poses enough energy to do so. It is pertinent to remember that the temporary ripples we generate in our everyday life are either positive or negative and carry great importance because they affect at least one person anyway.

What is of equal or even greater significance, however, is the effort we put into ensuring the ripples we generate on a daily basis are preserved and whether they (the ripples we exude) turn out as good legacies. There will be times when the ripples we generate are bound to suffer “highs” and “lows” but they will surely continue for as long as there is enough momentum to keep them going, momentum generated at the very beginning of the ripple. The life we live in our small circles, though perceived as tiny ripples, do in fact hold huge potentials for transformation and change.
